Edirol R4 Power Supply
« on: October 02, 2025, 04:02:17 PM »
Does anyone have an extra lying around in their gear closet or can point me to one that won't fry my R4?

I have an external battery, but I just want to use it for some transfers.

I have a Roland adapter that was used for a UA5. It's 9V center pin negative. Not sure if it's the same.

I think it is looking for 9V 2A. I wonder if I still have a UA5 adapter too. I will need to look.

R4 power input is different from R44.

If I recall correctly, it might use a hirose rather than a coaxial power input.  Not sure, could be something else.  I only used the R4 briefly but I do recall its external powering differed from the more common R44.

The battery cable I have is the normal reverse polarity tip.

The R4 pro has a 4 pin XLR DC in, but the R4 has the same DC input as the R44!

R4 power input is different from R44.

If I recall correctly, it might use a hirose rather than a coaxial power input.  Not sure, could be something else.  I only used the R4 briefly but I do recall its external powering differed from the more common R44.

^ Ah yes, that's it.  Forgot it also has the same DC coaxial input as the R44 in addition.  Thanks for the correction and apologies for the unnecessary warning.  Mostly wanted to prevent vanark popping an internal fuse or worse, with that reverse-polarity thing in mind.

The R4 says to use a Roland PSB-1U power supply. I'm pretty sure this is 9V 2A whereas the UA-5 is 9V 450mA. There are no name Chinese versions with a negative center pin, mostly for replacement for keyboards. Like GB alluded to, I am trying to avoiding damaging the unit with some knockoff.
