I've been looking into tiny cardioid mics for ultra low footprint on-stage recording going into custom DC battery pack + attenuator cable (if needed) + Deity PR-2.
The overall footprint of the recorder + battery pack + cables + mics should be smaller than a can of beer to maximize placement options and avoid distracting musicians and listeners.
Placing the mics near the floor should counter the bass roll-off common to cardioids, so no stand.
The big question is SPL handling of these mics, here's the ones I'm considering:
* AKG LC81 MD (4.8mm diameter, 145 dB, THD unknown)
* Point Source CR-8L (4.0mm diameter, 135 dB, THD unknown)
* DPA 4080 CORE+ (5.7mm diameter, 131 dB @ <1% THD; 134 dB @ 10% THD)
Any others I should look into?
Mics would be configurable X-Y, figure 8, or something in-between depending on scenario using cable ties.
I already own a set of SP-CMC-8 (Audio Technical ES-943-C), but they're currently on long term loan to a friend and the cables are thick with 8.4mm diameter elements.
