Carried it around in a nice padded aluminum flight case...

This JB3 is locked up...it wont get past the "Creative Labs" boot screen.

Since this occured...sometimes the screen will turn all "black"...sometimes it will just show the Creative Boot screen...

I've tried most of the trouble shooting and have read serveral FAQ's...no luck...

Anyone else have similar issues.???

Ha...just got the thing out and now...it works FINE...WTF...???

I've read about the heat issues...and it was hot Sat...but the thing was never in direct sun...and the symptoms did not match any that I saw mentioned in the "Heat and Roo" thread...

I even took an Ice pack and put it under my JB3 (it was mostly soft/melted...covered with towel)

I even drove home Saturday and tried to run it at home...same lock up...

It might also be worth noting that the backlight would not come on when the bootscreen froze...

For some reason, I'm suspicous of the power supply...

SIDE BAR: the Creative Power supply will also work just fine with a Sony D7/8!!! (which I was forced to use this weekend)

id keep a paperclip in your taping bag if it were me, ive done hundreds of dat transfers onto the jb3 plus all the recordings ive done w/ it, it just likes to lock up sometimes, its kinda like a woman ;)

id do a reset now w/ one, it wont erase anything!

Actually - when I ran home from the gig on Saturday(to get my DAT)...I DID hit the reset...that seemed to have no effect whatsoever...

An hints on how to do a proper reset...? I think you are supposed to hold down the "Stop" button...release and hit "Play"?

I was in a hurry, so maybe I missed something in the FAQ...

I think that may be why it was acting weird. My JB3 did the same thing here at home when I plugged in the wrong AC adapter to it. Haven't had an issue with it otherwise, so something wrong with your power supply makes sense to me.

to reset, hold down the stop button, while holding it in hit reset, as soon as a screen comes on, release stop and hit play ONCE!

do a disc cleanup and a reboot and that may werk, once all of your music is off of it too, do a reformat!!!

this really should solve your problems!!!

my jb3 froze up to where a reformat wouldnt turn it over, but i did a disc cleanup and she fired right up :)

Pretty sure thats what I was doing...it would just stay stuck on the boot screen...the backlight never comes on.

UPDATE:

Mine seems INCREDIBLY heat sensitive...I put the Jb3 (in its flight case) in my car...the car was hot from sitting in the sun...and I did run back in the house once...so it couldn't have been in the car more than 10 minutes before I left for a 1 hour air-conditioned ride to a friends house...when I arrive...take the case in...the JB3 wont start...wont get past the boot screen...let it sit for 30-40 minutes in his air conditioned basement...finally it works.

The unit never feels warm...I havent even used the batteries yet...I figure they must generate some heat...

I've seen at STAPLES some "Laptop Cooling Mats" that might be handy for JB3 users...they look like a thick slice of swiss cheese...and would likely run off AC...I'll check them out when I go to town next. I would even consider drilling some holes in my unit if it would bring it up to DAT-like reliability...

Yes the JB3 is heat sensitive, but yours sounds a bit extreme..mind you it never gets that hot here in the UK!

The couple of times its shut down on me its been buried deep in my jacket pocket (with the pleatherette cover on) and the JB3 felt pretty hot. Since then I take it out a fair bit while recording to get some air to it.

Damn good toy.

I wouldn't say DAT reliability on this end, but the lack of media and the quick transfers far outweigh the need to "baby" the JB3 a little.
I"m 98.62% happy with mine:)

I'm intrigued by that "cooling pad" you were talking about from staples...depending on the power source, this might just solve the problem of having to keep the Jebbie (my own name for my unit....I just made it up right now) out in the open during operation......?

EDIT: Sorry...this was in reference to another post...I'm off to take my meds.
