Stockholm taping question
« on: July 06, 2004, 05:24:10 PM »
The last time I saw Panic was in 98, but I remember that it seemed like they had Dave cranked up at every show - bass slapping you in the chest. I'll be taping Stockholm tonight in a bar about 30' from stage pushed back into a corner and need to decide between 91s in ORTF or 93s in DIN. If there is a lot of bass, it might be better to run din, but I don't know how he'll be mixed. I could provide samples from each configuration from last week if that would help.

the bass drum was turned up at 10klf.  The sound guy is the same as panics from what I heard and he likes the kick drum

Thanks - maybe I'll go DIN.

Here's a sample if anyone else wants to chime in.

Chris Riebold is running sound & he was/is panic's sound guy. It has varioed so far. Dave is definitely prominent in the mix. At the 2 paris shows Dave was actually a lot louder in the back of the room than fob. In charleston it wasn't too bad. in Wilmington the bass was rattling the floor. I ran my 4022's xy at each of those shows just to keep the bass down.

He's absolutely right on that. My hearing will never be the same after that night.

Agreed. It was pretty intense down there on the floor.

John, if I was pushed back in a corner, I'd run xy. That's just me, though.

ran 25' from stage for both stockholm sets. tons of bass, lots of kick drum. I'd say run x-y hypers indoors to cut some of that. tapes sound great, but the low end has to be dialed back to flat for home listening. mcfadden is the man!!!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I am probably an idiot. After listening to those shows, I decided I liked the ortf cards more. What I didn't realize was exactly how much more bass would be present. I've been getting over a cold and the bass was knocking all that crap out of my lungs. Both the opener (blue merle) and stockholm were great. Not a huge fan of Jerry Joseph, but the band as a whole was awesome.
