hey now , just curious on what everybody plans on doing for coventry.. just got a call back from the airport and the faa does not permit wet cell batteries on airplanes unless in use (ie wheel chair) .. so what does everybody plan to do as far as flying goes ..?? or what have people done in the past.?

you might want to check the archive for more info, but if you have sla's from the oades or eco charge, you can download and print out some FAA docs that the security may or may not want to see.  you are better off carrying on your batts and chargers, and u might want to check the mic stand ands cables.  depending on your airline and airport, they may or may not let u check the cables.

do you know that in the ATL airport at one of the checkpoints, this over-zealous airplane official made me hook up my rig and prove that it was actual recording equipment.  I almost missed my plane.  Punk stated that my metal case looked menacing.

you'll be fine,don't check anything,carry it all cause they may want you to power it up and
print up the msds sheets and keep in your bag with the sla's.

..the lady just sounded kind of sketchy.. stating that anything with sulfuric acid or wet cell batteries were not permitted.. soo this changes with carryon>??  i was thinking about mailing all of my stuff up.. but hell for that $$ i an buy the phish version and dance my ass this crazy ..

take all of your batteries out of the bag and place them in their own container, they will tell you that you do not need to, but go ahead and tell them that these are battries for your recording gear and show them your gear, never had a problem doing this and I doub you will either, just act like you know hwat you are doing and you will be fine, have traveled plenty with my gear and had no one ask me not to bring anything

each time, i take my sla and the m148 and put it in one of the laptop bins.   they always ask what they are and they always swipe them with the bomb detection pads but never had a problem.   just allow some extra time in case but i've never had a problem.   taking the battery out was suggested by a security person once and i just do it each time.  usually they don't even bother with my bag now.  in the past they'd pull everything out when they were pulling the slas out and it took forever to get it back in the bag right.

I flew to oregon 2 weeks ago with a 12Ah and  a 7.2Ah SLA, along with 5 x 3Ah 9.6v batteries.  I had no trouble from secuirity for the batteries.  I did leave a plastic tent stake in my backpack on the return trip, which resulted in a 1/2 hour delay while they searched through my bag, and wiped every device (including the XLR plugs) with a liitle cloth an put it in a machine.

Do not call them batteries. They are "power supplies". Look proffesional, speak proffesionaly and you will not have any problems.

last time I flew I had a backpack with a ua5, rc batts, chargers, jb3, xlrs, etc...

They didn't say a word.  They didn't even open it.

WTF?  I'm not complaining...  but I am 99% sure the guy on the xray machine had no clue what all that gear was...  so why didn't they look inside or ask me what it was???  Same for the return flight.

you just never know what is going to happen.
