Requesting help with EAC offsets, getting SBEs
« on: July 14, 2004, 11:17:30 AM »
I've posted this in the EAC forum, but I'm very keen to get this fixed as soon as possible as I was in the middle of doing B&Ps for people. Many thanks to anyone that can help:

I've been using EAC for about three years until last weekend when my pc crashed and I destroyed my hard drive. I am fairly sure how to set it up using:

http://www.geocities.com/newbie_zone/

And I know my offset is +566

I am getting the following error message in compare wavs:

Error type:
0:00:00.013 longer

(the 1/75sec error I guess).

Discs have the occasional SBE. Only thing I think was different is the guy that reformatted my HD did not use FAT. Sorry I'm no computer whiz!

List your:

1. Operating System (example: Win98SE + all MS patches): Windows 2000

2. ASPI Layer (e.g. Adaptec 4.60.1021) ? No Idea ?

3. Type of cd-rom/cdrw/dvd-reader (e.g. Sony DDU-1621, firmware 1.06) Sony CRX700E

4. Bus type: ATA/EIDE ?????

5. Chipset: VIA, SiS, Intel, etc (e.g. Via KT133A) Intel PIII

6. Version of EAC used (e.g. 0.94b) v0.95 prebeta 5 (I tried the older version too)

7. What kind of error do you get (please be VERBOSE! If you get an error message, repeat it also) See above

8. Additionally, what EAC settings are you using under the "Drive Options"
Secure mode, Drive has accurate stream, Drive caches audio data, read command MMC1, Use read sample offset correction +566, allow speed reduction, CD text capable, gap detection method B, accurate, 0 seconds write samples offset

I believe it's because you have specified an offset but did not check the box to fill up missing samples (so your offset changes the file length to non-standard duration).  My guess is it only affects the first or last track, depending on whether the offset is + or - but I do remember getting the odd funny thing when working with tracks vs. the whole disc as an image.

You specified an offset of 566 samples.  If you do the math, 566 / 44,100 = 0.013 seconds, which matches the error you're reporting.

The best way to avoid these issues is to just copy the disc image instead of individual tracks.

Action, copy image and create cue sheet (uncompressed)

You can then load up the cue sheet, or just drag the cue sheet back onto EAC and it will go into 'burning' mode.
