Neumann caps with Schoeps accessories?
« on: July 20, 2004, 11:35:59 AM »
Just saw a link on another thread where Cascade Media has cheaper alternatives to. the standard Schoeps DIN/NOS bars:

http://tinyurl.com/3nlgy

Will the Neumann AK caps/LC3 cables fit these? I've never ran Schempz, so I don't really know the details as far as size difference. Any info or comparison pics would be appreciated...

I just got an email from Kwon indicating that their is difference (though small) in the size of the neumann caps/connectors which would throw off the correct horizontal spacing for true DIN/DINA configurations.  He also indicated that he would have the Neumann bars ready shortly.  Joe W. will have one delivered soon...

Pardon my igmorance but who is Kwon ?

Is this bar different than the xy/ortf combo Joe W. posted pictures of ? The combo is close to true DIN, 18-19cm instead of 20cm ...

I will add a few comments about this bar:

1.  It is designed to be mounted on the schoeps suspension mount (go figure).
2.  It's made of the same durable material.
3.  The mounting, instead of pushing it into the bar down the axial direction, is designed to be clipped on by mounting the end of the active cable sideways into position.  It was designed this way because of the rubber grommet/cover on the back end of the neumann cable assembly is subtle and soft, and after abuse I can see how it could eventually damage it from too much rubbing from wear and tear.
4.  The cable has to be routed a specific way in order for it to create enough tension and position the caps correctly.

This may all seem like weird science, but each bar will be shipped with directions and cautions.  After your first mounting, it'll be like Lego.

I do have a pic that I will post after I get home.

It may be the other way around, but according to CascadeMedia.net, that is the correct designation.

How snug is the fit of the capsules?   From the description it sounds like they move around if the cables aren't wrapped to keep tension applied.

That looks really nice.  Whats the chance that there will be one that mounts for MS?
