Suggestions for a rig?
« on: July 31, 2004, 06:27:31 PM »
When it gets into all this technical stuff about taping, I am completely clueless.

Here's what I need.........

I need a setup, preferable not over $1000, to do some recording at my home.  I'll need the mics, recorder, and what ever else is in between.  This will be just for me to get some of my original songs and (acoustic) jams with friends on tape..........i'll probably won't use it too often, just on occasion.

If someone could give me a list of a good setup that would sound decent I'd greatly appreciate it!!  Right now I am just using a cheap mic and a cassette deck, so pretty much anything will be a big improvement in what I am currently using.

Thanks so much!!!!

Also remember I'm a newbie, so specific model numbers and whatnot would be extremely helpful!

Under a grand?  I'd go for the Studio Projects C4s > Warm Mod UA-5 > Nomad Jukebox 3.  That'd run you way under a grand. ;D

If your recording at home why dont you just get a good soundcard and record straight into your computer?  Save you the conversion step.  And I agree with the C4's I like them for recording my guitar.

Well with the JB3 you don't need a conversion.  I thought about suggestion computer options, but you're not always near a computer. ;)

Should have mentioned that......that is the exact case, my computer isn't near where we'd be recording.

Thanks for the link and suggestions!!!  I'm going to start looking around at stuff now....if anyone has any suggestions from placed to order that'd be appreciated!

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction   ;D

Quite true.  It's kinda moot since he already said he wont be near a computer. ;)  But it's a good point.

Okay, after a good bit of looking around and comparing prices I've come to the conclusion that I might rather go ahead and buy my own computer, which I've been meaning to do, and just get a good sound card and some good recording/editing software.

Any suggestions on good but affordable recording/editing software??

Thanks again for all your help and guidance!

There are many softwares to choose from....I love Goldwave...www.goldwave.com, just as powerful as the rest, but $40, give it a look.
