well my m1 went out at the last show i taped, kinda strange, pluged in the ac threw in a tape set my levels, then turned off for the next hour til the tunes came on went back plugged in the ac and i get nothing, very strange, never had any problems with the deck neither did the previous owner, anyways......ive looked into pro digital out of PA seems ligit, but would like to explore other options any ideas?thanks in advance

Sounds like you have experienced the classic "misload", where everything looks great with levels everywhere but your tape is...blank.
 Never happened with my D100 in 4 years, but the used M1 i bought here has experienced it twice in the last year of using it. The last time after taping the Funky Meters, an absolutely smokin' show-grrrh!
 Paul at Pro Dig certainly has the confidence of virtually every DAT owner I know, but I've never seen anyone recommend your deck being sent off for repairs after this type of incident. Never seen an explanation for it either, though I now know a pretty good way to find out if your tape "misloaded" before you start taping the show-so you at least can be sure evrythig is working OK.
 Basically, you load the tape, go through your pause/record/pause sequence (without rushing it) and record a few seconds of crowd. then stop and rewind and play, to see if there are some levels showing your recorded crowd noise. If so, you should be loaded OK and good to go. If not, I suppose the procedure would be eject, reload, and try again.
 I'm sure someone has a more detailed explanation, and a plain answer to the ? of whether you need to send off your deck after this happens(once). I think after my second experince with this problem, my deck probably needs to be looked at.

nope...i tried the ac plug, AA batts, and my bp-50
nothing

Doh.  FWIW, I've heard gobs of good things about Pro Digital, and one big, awful thing.  I wish I'd sent my D100 there instead of to Sony last year.

Something about a piece of gear disappearing, disagreements about who's responsible (taper, shipper, P-D), no resolution, taper out $$$.  I don't recall the details, though I heard it directly from the taper involved recently.

Pro-digital is great.  Been there a couple of times.  They are both really nice guys.

wasnt that over an apogee ad1000 or ad500? hell, even apogee wont fix those anymore! and there are NO parts for them, outside of buying a used or broker one

FWIW, i will endorse pro-digital also. i live within 3miles of pro-dig and also been there a few times. paul, tom and mike are stand up guys and know dat decks (portable and permanant) inside and out.  they have always taken care of me and my dat and adat decks, and even helped me out on a 8track reel to reel deck i had. if its electronic and there are parts for it, pro-dig can probably fix it

Yeah you right -- Paul at Pro Digital broke the news to me that my nine-year-old D7 finally needed a new head.  He estimated the cost of the repair, and also offered to give me $150 for it the way it was.  I took the money and ran, then threw down for a new D8.......
