I'm hoping that someone can help me with this problem because I just can't get a clean transfer to save my life.
First off I'm running Win XP and transfer using: Panasonic 3700 > M-Audio Delta Dio 2496 > Soundforge 6.0.
I've been transferring DATs for over a year with this setup and have never run into a problem before. But for the last few weeks I keep running into the same problem. Once I've recorded to my hard drive, the wav file has intermittent interference throughout. It doesn't really have a pattern in terms of frequency, but it seems to happen at least once every 10-15 mins., sometimes less frequently.
Here is a sample of the noise (it's a .wav, but it's only 15 secs. long):
http://members.cox.net/mnivenjr/moe1999-03-21glitch.wavThe only thing I've done differently since the problem started is upgrading my Win XP with Service Pack #2. I always make sure to have my firewall, virus software, etc. turned off, but I can't seem to avoid this interference. And there is no interference when I listen from the DAT deck, so it's got to be on the transfer end.
To me, it sounds like it is some software program that turns on during the transfer intermittently, but I can't for the life of me figure out what because I don't technically have any processes running. Could there be some hidden things that I need to turn off in Task Manager?
I've got so much old moe. and other stuff that I want to transfer, but I can't......arrrrgggggghhhhh! Anyone have any clue what might be happening or suggestions on what to try? I'm computer literate, but not super savvy.
Thanks in advance.
