Topic: Phantom power and the PMD 670

The specs for the Marantz PMD 670 list a 48v Phantom Power....can that be used for the mics or do you need something like Denecke PS-2 as well?

48v provides power for most mics.

Look at the specs for mics and you'll see "power requirments".  Look for one that says 48v.

You'll see under "operating voltage" it says 48 v phantom power.

I would pick up the ADK TLs that are for sale in the Yard Sale.  Very good mics, changes patterns, comes with everything you need except t-bar and stand.

NOTE -- Doug Oade has commented that the pdm670s analog stage is  NOT suited for concert recording as delivered.  Doug can perform modifications to this unit to bring its analog stage up to that of a tascam dap1.

The Oade Brothers are famous among the tapers.  They do a lot of testing and wokring for our community.

A guy I know here in Nashville has a PMD 670, and while I've never heard any shows he's pulled, he's told me numerous times that an external pre and A/D are pretty much a necessity.

He tapes a lot of quieter bluegrass and acoustic shows, and he's had the *extremely* noisy pre-amp on the PMD 670 ruin more than one show.
