Topic: Mic Stand Wobble Woes...

Hi guys --

I've got a Bogen 3078 which works great except for the fact than if I extend it to anything over 8 feet the stand starts to wobble like it hears a drum beat.  I trying using shoe stands but that doesn't seem to help.

Any ideas would be great.

also, do you need to go over 8'? I think that's about the max I would ever need to go unless I'm in the back of an arena...

how about some tent stakes to secure your stand?  and i agree with sunbear, 8' is about the max i'd ever go.

Thanks -  I'll give the sand bags a shot. I usually use stand footpads that I tape down to the floor but as mentioned that doesn't do the trick.

sometimes wobbling occurs cause the stands individual risers are to the extent they can reach.  Try extending one all the way, then putting it back down like 2 inches, it will help keep it more stable since the bar is inside the other helping keep it from swaying.  Thats what i do, and it works like a charm.  peace

i take it you guys never tape any bands like dmb or in inside venues with high stacks....regardless i agree with what was said above. stands often do that b/c they all fully extended. leave each section in a little bit and you should be good. also, duc tape is your friend.

Me and my buddy were running his Nach Cm100 (with the CP4 shotgun capsules  ) at Bonnaroo with his stand at 12'.  It was fun, they were running higher than the soundboard platform!

His stand was secure enough, he had tent spikes to anchor it into the sand FOB.  We did have to drop it down a little during the rain (namely Winwood's set) because they were swaying far too much.
