I need something new for carrying my rig around
« on: October 18, 2004, 04:15:45 PM »
I've been carrying my rig in a hardsided locker case for a while now. It's heavy, bulky and getting to be a pain to use.
I want to move to a soft camera bag or backpack.

It needs to be tall enough that I can stand my MiniMe up inside when everything is set up.

I'm using a 9v LiON DVD battery now instead of the 12v SLA for my power, so I'm hoping to make everything lighter and easier to carry.

Ideally there would be some padding and maybe separate compartments for separating things so they don't get beat-up when being carried.

I'd appreciate some advice on this, before I go out and buy three or four different bags before I find the one that really works.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

i'd check out the sonic sense bags.  im not sure if they are tall enough to stand up the minime, but they are sweet bags.
right now i use a single large compartment dat bag from portabrace and i dig it.  on the portabrace, again not sure bout standing up the minime, but the bag i have has a velcro pocket to let the cables in, and i could envision the MME on its side adjusting the levels throught the open velcro pocket.

sweet bags, but pricey.
hope this helps,

Yeah, I've seen lots of the Sonic Sense bags. I'm looking for something cheaper.

Thanks Bean. I'm just  not very good at looking at pictures of back packs to see if they would work for me.

I'm pretty sure I want a softsided case, like a camera bag. It has to be about a foot high though. Thats the tough part.

I was looking at the SonicCase over at Sonic Sense. I need something like that, but without the huge price tag.

I was over looking at the Rigs Pictures pages, but I didn't see many photos of gear bag options.

ya what Bean said....$$...That's the part that sucks on the MMe ...its layout...I have mine in the back pouch of an orginal RAK Gear back pack. If you get a back pack ( recommended, better than lugging a case), check out some tupperware or Possibly a slim line pelican case (not sure if they have anything to suit)...and modify it so that you ahve the outter support but have access to the ends...
ya know the MME soft case is set up to hold a battery. sonall you wuold need to do is carry the rest in a small hip pack.  You might have to get creative to set it all down though....go for the back pack ;)

Thanks for the advice.

I'm seriously considering making (sewing) my own Sonic Sense style soft case now.
I do appreciate the advice...
Thanks +T to ya...

This is what I ended up getting:

Looks like it'll work fine.

That should work just fine...if you go w/ the right angled connectors, no worries about it setting in the bag...else you could get a piece of hard foam and make a standoff for it to set in.
hope it works out fine for you...afterall $30 is a deal...too bad they don't make the raks for them anymore.

Yeah...
I've been using the right angle connectors for a while now. So, I'm set there...
That's funny that you mentioned the raks...
I was researching that last night.
