ua5 digimod problems
« on: November 04, 2004, 02:06:40 AM »
Ok so my friend digimodded my box and it was working fine.  Then the optical started giving me some trouble.  Then some girl accidentally kicked my box like 10 feet at a show cuz she was talking on her cell phone and wasn't watching where she was going. From then on the phantom power stopped working and the optical stopped working altogether.  If I shook the box, I could get the phantom power to come on for a few seconds, but then it would cut out again.

I brought the box to a another friend's friend, his name is Dave, who was gonna look at it and fix it for me. He said he fixed it, and then I got it back from him.  I used it at a show and after about a 1/2 hour of taping, the same thing happened again - phantom power cut off and so did the optical, and it wouldn't go back on.  I gave the box back to my friend who is gonna bring it back to Dave. Dave says he will replace the entire jumper.

Does this sound like a problem with just the digimod, or could there be something else wrong that happened when the girl kicked my box?  If it's just the digimod, how does one fix it?  I didn't think that doing the mod would affect the phantom power in any way?

Thanks.

The digimod has no effect on phantom power, it sounds like something else is screwed up. First see if replacing the jumper helps. if the same problems persist, you might be able to send it back to Edirol. ask Dave if he cut the USB path or if he removed the resistor. If he removed the resistor then he has the option of resoldering it on so there are no physical signs of modification and it can be sent back.  otherwise it might be new preamp time.  Also, did you kick that girl in the face??

my friend who originally did the mod cut the USB path... I dunno if dave removed the resistor or just resoldiered the same wire that my friend used.  I would think the box is out of warranty anyway, I got it 2 years ago.
