one quick question,
i was looking on the net and realized there are 2 types of V3's (6V and 12V). i'm assuming this deals with how it is powered. is there one specific model that people prefer? which would be ideal for field recording (or does this even matter)??

you can change between the two on the unit- just involves recalibration and a jumper setting.

6vs are generally lighter and save your back

I have a 6 volt model. I was told they don't get as hot also.

Mine doesn't even get warm to the touch after hours of usage.

Anyone have a 12 volt model? Does it get warm or hot?

i have a 6v and run it at 9v and it doesnt get hot

the only difference is a jumper on the inside and the low batt light calibration to 12v

yes, if you run a 6v V3 on a 12v battery it will dissapate the extra energy as heat. with that said, i usedd to run a 12v V2 and it always got warm. Not hot like an old apogee, but warm.
