Consider the source, however.  I like my PDA rig, but most of the parts are not designed for our application.  It works fine, but is fragile.  My guess is that any unit specifically designed for audia recording will be more bomb proof than a standard PDA-based rig.

I've recorded several hours at 24/96 without problems, but you need the right media and you need to pre-allocate the files.

Do you mean for 24bit you must use CF media?  I've tried every new version of Live2496 Gidluck releases with the Toshiba 5GB pcmcia drive and it hasn't worked at 24bit.

any old CF, or does it have to be the "ultra"/high speed version?

There are a lot of variables, like which model PDA you are using.  Apparently some PDAs write to the storage card faster than others.  I use an Addonics 40 GB external hard drive.  I can record 24/48 without any problems.  24/96 is more of a hassle.  First, you pre-allocate the files using the Live2496 file allocation tool.  Then, if your files are going to be more than 4GB you have to pre-allocate several files and set up live 2496 so it automatically switches to the next file at the end of each.

CF cards work the best, but there you are limited by the ammount of storage on the card.  Gordon is working on an upgrade that will allow you to switch cards while recording and not lose any of the show.

Yea why cant Sony make a M1/D100 with a HD instead of a DAT Drive. Can it really be that hard.

Since the Sonosax recorder has only been shown in pre-pre-alpha stage, i'd say it's way too early to be bringing that unit into the discussion. When they are in the beta stage, or close to shipping it, then we can compare it to other animals out there. Right now for all we know it might never get released.

I'm not comparing it to current recorders.  However from what we know it will be a lot like what Jonny was looking for.  Comparisons can't come until someone is able to play with it.

Which PDA, OS, and which expansion pack are you using ?
What are you using for a 24bit source ? Coax or optical ?

I've had a more positive experience.
iPAQ 3650/PPC2002/DP dual PCMCIA pack/Tosh 5GB drive/COAX from UA-5 has been doing 24/48 without errors.
I haven't tried enough pre-allocated 24/96 to vouch, but have heard a few solid success stories.
Disk maintenance is important. Perhaps you have a bad HD ?

a 24 bit jb3 would suit me just fine... aes in, firewire out, interna; 40gb drive

yah but without a gigantor price tag.  think of it more as a 722 with less rather than more.

I'm still holding out hope that a 2 track version will be less than the 722.
