Embarrasing question that I could not resolve even with FAQ
« on: December 04, 2004, 11:25:47 AM »
Ok I know that I am idiot but I got my jb3 and powered it on and wanted to test to see if the mic works at home before going to a show and don't even have a battery pack yet just trying to see how this thing works.  I connected a sony ecm lapel mic to the line in connection on the left side of the jb3.  I then used menu to scroll to line in record and changed the format to 44.1 and then started to record.

The problem is my test at home the recording starts I talk into the mic but there are no bars like it says in the manual that should appear.  it records.  I stop the test record and listen and it did not record my voice.

I am sure I am doing something dumb?

Can I not simply attach a mic to the line-in?  It fits!

You'll need some power to the mics when going line-in. Either a battery pack or some sony ecm have a place to fit a battery (I'm not sure about yours).

Roamer,

Thanks for the help!  Question though I had been using a mindisc and could just plug sony ecm lapel mic into line-in.  So using JB3 you cannot just do that?

Right, the MD provides "plug-in power", the jb3 does not.

Jason,

Thanks for clearing that up for me.  I have a sony ecm-ts125 battery mic that had never previously used with the my lapel sony mic, I guess I can use that for a trial recording once I go out and find the right battery for it.

Thanks

Michael

Abada,

I am a newbie so when you say it should work with mic-in, do you mean using line-in recording?

Thanks for everybody's help today but the reason it was not working is the operating version was still 1.11.07 and after updating the firmware all is cool.
