Do any of you guys use the stand clamp from micsupply?
« on: December 08, 2004, 04:01:36 PM »
I was considering ordering one so I could put the minime 248 and M1 on it which would make it easier with all the cable I have to use.  I just wanted to know what yall think about it and you think its too much with my other superclamp holding my mini dv?  Im a little concered that it might be a little heavy although the bogen stands are really sturdy also kinda scared about people bumping into my stand and knocking my gear off (Iguess I could wrap something around the gear to hold it in place and not fall::) )
thanks
Kevin

Are you refering to the stand shelf?

I ordered one last week. I'm planning on putting a lip around the bottom shelf myself just in case my stand gets bumped. Strapping it down with some wide straps is a very good idea. +T  I guess it depends on your surroundings.

I don't have one, but thought about it for a second. In the section at arena type shows, festivals, etc.  it may be a good idea, but I would be affraid to use it in a smaller venue where you aren't protect from the crowd. It's just asking to get knocked over, or to have beer spilled on it, etc etc etc....

For years I keep seeing a guy who runs a little shelf like that at a lot of outdoor shows.   It seems pretty nice.  If your stand is secured it should be plenty stable.

I made one very similar myself.  Three pieces of advice, first put it as low towards the legs as possible.  It's still off the ground and in a decent spot where you don't have to bend down tooo far.  Second, bring tent stakes, invaluable if outside, or ducktape or gaffers tape or whatever your fancy inside.  The table combined with that heavy clamp as you can imagine makes it much more unstable and these help tremendously.  Third, bungee cords or strap it down.  I thi nk someone already said that.  These things are really nice for festivals and such where you're set up in one spot for the day.  I even made a special umbrella thingy that covers my jb3 and the rest of the table to stop overheating.
