Has anyone ever tried replacing the entire cable on the AT853's?
« on: December 23, 2004, 12:10:52 PM »
I just picked up a pair of white 853's on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3769790989

and i was wondering if it was possible to replace the entire cable with a black one as I really would prefer not to spraypaint the wire.  But if thats not possible anyone got any good suggestions for spray paint that wont make the wire stiff or break off?

marker teck has cable covers that are a mesh black.  i'd look into something like that before hacking up something hoping that it will work when your done.
AKG 391's > phantom boxes > JB3 or Casio DA-7
Panasonic WM1610 omni's > whatever

Playback: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum > Onkyo TSDX595 > matched Oynix Rockets > Mirage FRX-S8 sub

Also, try to cut that cable legnth down.  Having 25 feet of cable on a 9 foot stand is unneccessary.

Good luck stealthing with white mics.  +t on spray painting them black.

Yeah i def have to do something with the cable. But for $76 that was a deal I could not pass up! I was thinking cutting it to 10ft, but will that be to cumbersome for stealth?  I want to do both open and stealth with these.  Also i'd be interested in getting some of that cable shrink stuff, anyone got some lyin around.  I don't have time for markertek to get their act together as i'm leaving in 15 days.  +T to all and thanks.
