I have a bag question for you guys
« on: January 10, 2005, 03:39:02 PM »
ok I just bought my bag and I LOVE it! it's an Okeechobee FATS tackle bag from wal mart....it's water proof and has lots of compartments....I'm wanting to build an internal frame in it that will allow me to run my UA5 vertical with space underneath it to allow me space to the rear inputs and controls and my JB3 horizontally on a stage like platform towards the top of the opening with my cables all running underneath and I'll tape em to the sides of the bag....but I can't figure out what kind of material to build this frame with....any tips?

here's a few pics of my bag...

Yup, those vinyl coated wire dish racks are the best.  You can bend then to form what ever shape you need.  You can connect them together using wire ties.  There are lots of examples in the rigs pics section - search for "target rack".

I was at Target a week ago and they had a completely stocked shelf with all different sizes.  Also, the very same racks are available at K-mart.

You can also buy those type of shelves at walmart. I made a nice rack to fit in a lumbar pack with them.

this bag was 16 bucks  ;D

and it is pretty thick, lots of compartments, waterproof, and has a nice lil soulder strap

I'll have to get one of those shelf systems (or a few, since I'll probly screw up the first one)...I'm kind of wanting the inside shape of it to be like this....

   --------------
                 \        l
                  \       l
                   l       l
                   l       l
                   l       l
                   l____l

or something of the sort with the JB3 up on a platform connected to it via velcro and the UA5 down in the space....and I will also rig up my batteries in there and have my cables coiled at the bottom.....but the question is, how to I build an internal frame to keep the kitchen rack secure from moving? maybe some small peices of wood fastened to the frame that will slid snuggly into the bag...I'd like to have it where for the most part I can leave everything hooked up....should be a fun project :)

Build your rack so you can use the weight of the batteries to keep it stable.  strap the UA5 to the outside.  That will give you a stable platform.

I used a velcor strap to attach my UA-5 to the rack. It came in a 12ft roll, I bought it at lowes but Im sure you can buy it at any hardware store

I just took some pics and emailed you the link
Theres a top view pic of the setup and the front view. The Velcro is wrapped around the UA-5 and the shelf together. Then the UA-5Battery is Velcroed to the top of the UA5.Notice from the top view that I left space in the back for the cables to stick out. The SVU-1 is velcroed to the rack next to the UA-5. Then on top I cut out part of the shelf to fit the SX-M2 on top everything. Its held in place by to velcro cable holders. These all fit in to the Mountainsmith Carin Lumber pack on top of the Pelican 1060 case that hold the KM100 bodies and my caps are in film canisters that will fit in the bag too. I can fit everything else in the outside pockets.

Of course with the amount of space you have in your bag your setup will be quite different and a little easier to manage.I have a bigger bag but I wanted to fit everything in the smalller bag for FOB situations where space is very limited.
