I need to buy some stuff. I need your help.
« on: January 12, 2005, 08:43:22 PM »
I had asked a few questions earlier and everyone was very helpful however I have a question. (try to keep it simple for me. I looked at the terms but I still don't understand any of this)

I am going to be taping at a bar with people around and don't want to get the people talking around me. Can I buy just a wireless mic? If I did get a wireless mic, what do I buy to go with it to record the sound? How is it configured, how good are the wireless mics. If possible, please give me a specific model of what I would all need such as mic, recorder, etc....

Thanks,
Justin

Sorry for the double posting. I think I put the other in the wrong area?

Why don't you set up your mics on the lip of the stage (and run cards). You might loose some of the vocals though.

I record in a bar in Denver and I think I might run my mics on stage and mix the SBD in with my UA5 next time I'm there.

I think if you search for stage lip recording you'll find some good info.

I taped RHSC many MANY times in VERY small and VERY loud bars...I just ran the mics as high as I could right at the soundboard....gotta do the best you can

what are you recording?
where are you recording at?
will it be a problem if people can see your mics?
how loud will the music be?
how close will you be to the stage?
will it be amplified or acoustic?
how much money do you have to spend? ;D

Mic placement/appropriate caps is the best sollution for eliminating crowd noise.  I don't know much about wireless micing, but do they make a wirless system for condensor mics?  HOw would the mics be powered?  Why not just clamp your mics to something and run long mic cables to where you are sitting.  That way you don't have to worry about crowd noise.

You can get wireless packs for any mic I believe. You need to have the big receiver fin thing within whatever range it is. I'm no expert on wireless but I'm not 100% sure the fidelity is the same as nice cables. But how cool would that be? I can picture sitting out in the car taping...  ;D

there would prolly either have to be a battery in the mic, or a battery pack wired to the mic...
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.
