iso: dvd burner
« on: January 27, 2005, 11:38:53 AM »
Im starting to shop around for a dvd burner, looking for some tips on what to get.
First, Im looking at Best Buy because I have a gift card, and I am  mostly looking to burn dvd movies
and also looking to get into trading multiple shn/flac shows on one dvd disc , and possibly re do my massive archive this way as well. ( I have TOO many single shows archived on 2 cds)

What is good software to burn also? Im using Nero now stricly for audio discs, I see this Sony drive comes with a Nero bundle >

Any suggestions appreciated!

how big is your gift card?
You can get http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=27-152-035&DEPA=0 for $63 + shipping (which is free I think)
Nero 6.x.x.x has DVD burning built into it and that is what I use 80% of the time
Toshiba HD-A2 > HDMI > Panasonic TH-50PX600U
audio to be built soon

I own a Sony dvd burner and it's been nothing but headaches.  I believe the model# is DRU-510A.  It's very noisy, makes coasters in groups (meaning 4 or 5 cdr's in a row), a bit wacky when it comes to reading discs, especially for eac (causes eac to lock up quite often).  Once it started making multiple coasters, i quickly ordered a Plextor dual dvd burner and it's been great so far, paid around $160 on newegg.

TAKE A LOOK

IT'S IN A BOOK

READING FUCKING RAINBOW."

I have that model and haven't had 1 coaster and if you upgrade the firmware you can overburn a lot of the DVDs.  I have some 8x DVDs that burn perfect at 12x

One more question, I currently use Nero v 6.3.1.6 and only see a selection for a "mini dvd" ?
How would I burn a dvd / or could I use this one?

www.pricegrabber.com  - might wanna check that place out for the lowest prices.

nero won't allow you to mess around with the dvd functions until there is a dvd burner present.  once its installed, you should be able to start up nereo and start burning.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

New Egg also has a Lite-on with the same specs including double layer. My CD burner was a Cendyne--but is actually Lite-On made, and that is what my puter sees it s. Lite-on may also make the NEC and son will make all the HP stuff. My burner has done 800+ discs and the only coasters were when power went out during a rainstorm
