Making the world better/easier for tapers - input...?
« on: January 27, 2005, 11:32:32 PM »
Hey guys -

We talked over the ideas submitted by people at tapersection this past week and wanted to get final feedback on this....
Do you think it will be of interest/assistance to the taping community if we offer any or all of the following at purelivegigs.com? (each offer not mandatory, only if requested)

Bandwidth - we can use the excess capacity of our servers to seed your torrents so that you can drop off once a full copy is seeded & save your bandwidth for other uses - we can ensure superfast downloads of certain torrents from our remote server to the entire community and keep them going for as long as there is interest... (also alleviates begging you to re-seed)

Tfer time/effort - if you want to send us digital files, let us know and we can arrange to cut them into tracks and upload them for you.

Kill the Pirates - we will put an anti-ebay pirate icon on torrents as a warning & police ebay to stop pirates, as well as notify people who bid on items that they can get the show(s) for free at purelivegigs (in addition to and in conjunction with Ebay Team at tapersection if they're up for it)

"The Tapers request..." sticky - have you guys give input on a sticky thread for the site that sets forth etiquette towards tapers and what you hope for in return for your efforts - obvious things like keeping quiet, not bothering tapers, offers to give up good location/seat, etc

Invisible shield at shows - not yet available...

Let us know & thx for the ideas to date...!

i like these ideas, but i'm sure things will come up.

i do have a couple of questions tho.  with the bandwidth thing, will that work with any shows, or just certain ones?  won't you run out of room/bandwidth eventually?

also, how do you think the public will react to this stuff?  what happens if the site grows to the size of easytree/stg - will you still be able to do this then?

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

Fair pts -

The site does tend toward newer artists, so I think both the users and the crew working the site would like to see priority placed on those torrents.  Many of the jam bands are so well represented that I don't think it offers anyone that much to be another site seeding that material.  If a person is a solid contributor, we'll work with them to help them out in any way we can...

The real win is to encourage people to post more shows - I know alot of folks on the board here tape 5+ shows a month, but can't be arsed to post all of them.  Personally, I have never been able to seed 2-3+ shows at once effectively due to bandwidth probs, so in the past I kept good shows on my shelf - but from what I've seen to date, capacity on our servers is quite large and incredibly fast.  We could probably handle all the recent stuff posted at kickdown central.

If we were STG size, we'd need more servers to do this.  We'll cross the additional servers bridge when we come to it, but I think we'll be able to sort it all out.  While the space is available now, though, we think everybody would benefit from the server seeding idea (tapers & leechers alike)... + some of the other ideas...

We want to think these through, so feedback appreciated

Are you guys saying the other ideas are not of interest or the ebay plan is the best one?

Funny you mention that - I once sent a show to a friend & he missed half the song breaks - & they weren't jammed into each other -- no respect...  we'd do a faithful job, though

might wantta change this:
Quote
"The Tapers request..." sticky
to  something like "support your local taper"  and keep the content

just a thought
"the faster you go ahead, the behinder you get"

"If you can drink ram's piss, fuck, you can drink anything"

OK - maybe a different title would work - I think the one you have ther is too subtle - people won't get it, but we'll come up with something that works -

any other thoughts? - thx
