The limiter has nothing to do with the headphone output. The light just happens to be over there. The limiter is on the mic 1/2 inputs. The enabling/disabling of this is on menu item 16.
Out of the game … for now?

Read page 23 under "Headphone Peak". That's what i'm refering to.

sorry if this is dumb, but you turned up the headphone volume all the way and it's not loud?

Correct. I can't turn the volume up or down. When "1,2" is selected, nothing happens, but when "A,B" or "A,Bm" is selected, the headphone limiter light comes on when the volume is turned up all the way, but there's still no volume increase/decrease. I'm thinking there's a way to disable the limiter function, but I have yet to figure it out.

when 1,2 is selected, you are monitoring the inputs 1 and 2 directly.  Unless you have input, you should hear nothing.

when A,B is selected, you are monitoring the tracks written/read from the disk

I don't have themanual in front of me but I thought that the headphone has a peak indicator, not a limiter.  The peak indicator is helpful when monitoring so you can dertermine if distortion it is due to the headphone amp clipping instead of further upstream.

Sorry, I meant indicator, not limiter. When A,B is selected the indicator turns on (and stays on) when I turn up the volume, but there's still no volume increase.

are you sure you've got the headphones in the headphone out and NOT the tape out?

Not to be joking, but are you sure that you are using the phones jack and not the line jack?

Did you try the line output jack to see if that is affected by the phones volume control?  I didn't look to see if those jacks are board mount or discretely wired.  If they are discretely wired, it's possible that line and phone jacks were reversed during assembly.

In my case, the headphone jack and volume control worked as expected.

If you can't solve this, write SD through the support page.  They have been really responsive for me.

Wow! I'm a dumb ass. I've been using tape out the whole time. One of these days I will learn how to start paying attention. Thanks, Scott.

I'm really impressed, it also makes me want to get a rig together again.... almost ;)

just a follow up...the problem that Tim and I were having about getting files off the 722 and recognized properly by wavelab...the issue turns out to be that any file over 2 Gb, wavelab has issues with....We set the split at 2Gb before BHTM and everything came off properly and was recognized as 24/96...

Did you see any thing like Damon did with one track being a sample larger than the other?

(I'm thinking the computer did that and not the 722 but just wondering).

there is a switch above the inputs to switch form mic to line
