To control phantom power, you need to hold down the tone key and then press the HDD and MENU keys.

The LEDS on the left side will indicate status of phantom power.  You'll see them toggle as you press the left side control keys.

The switch above the XLR does not control phantom.  The 722 will supply phantom to line level inputs for situations where a mic has a hot enough signal that the mic preamps need to be out of circuit.

cool thanks, I just wanted to make sure there was a way to manually toggle phantom off, since with the jk labs setup I wont need it....

nick-why do you want another battery in your setup via the jk labs box ???

i would think one more battery would be a pain, just one more thing to worry about charging

if ya take the phantom from your pre, you only have to worry about that battery

Can the JKL boxes run off phantom supplied by another device?

No they can only be powered by internal 9v batteries.

yes, but you have to specify when ordering the unit.
the version I have, the ECMS-23 draws phantom power from the downstream preamp.
the ECMS-22, like what Lee had and NickGregory is getting has an internal 9v that supplies phantom

ok, makes sense if youre gonna stealth w/ it

i would get one that draws phantom down the chain, via the v3 since i never stealth

according to Jon the batter lasts for ~200 hours...and since there should be sonic difference between phantom from the device or the 9V system that Jon creates, it allows me to run my preamp longer without having phantom assist in draining the pre's batts...

stealth is another reason as well....

I'm not doubting Jon by any means, he really knows his stuff, but I just cant figure out how 1 9V will provide up to 48V phantom for @200 hours...

he explained it to me that the caps dont actually need 48V (nor do they get them when the bodies are in the equation as the bodies take some of that power) and when he makes a box that takes its power from the preamp, he actually has to step down the power before it gets to the caps....at least that is how I  understood him

Well this is news to me.  I've asked Jon about this before and he told me the only option was to use internal batteries.  In fact I believe he said that it wwas more trouble than it was worth to redesign the  device so it could run off phantom power.

So the only differance is that the ECMS-23 can be externally powered and the 22 needs the internal 9v?
Does this result in a smaller box?

from what I understand, mine is the first to be powered via phantom.
I wanted it to be a strict replacement of the mic bodies, nothing more.
the box is  4.75"  x  2.5"  x  1.5"; I dont know the measurements of the ECMS-22...
I would guess the ECMS-22 is the same size as there is plenty of room in the ECMS-23 for a 9v+additional electronics.

The ECMS-22 functions as a mic body replacement only, no preamp.  This is what I was going to order soon.  I guess I need to inquire about the ECMS-23 as well.

It sounds like phantom powering is the only differance with the 23. It would make sence to use the same case etc for both.
