Stealthing AT853
« on: February 26, 2005, 02:22:45 AM »
Just curious how other people stealth with the AT853 mics.  The Audio Technica mic clips are pretty large and stick out too far for a real stealth job.  I've heard of people using electrical tape instead of clips...does that work?  Any other suggestions I'd love to hear them.  Also, this is in regards to wearing the mics near the ears with a stocking cap.

I've worn the mics clipped to a pair of glasses.

What kind of clips do you use?  I bought a pair of the audio technica clips from sound professionals.  i could post a pic of them.

I used to try to be real sneaky and hid my stuff the best i could but after enough shows I realized no one really looks at you that close.I really don't spend to much time hiding them in fact the mics you speak of I've used many times and Ill just clip them anywhere that works good, the coliar of my shirt ,or the sunglasses hanging around my neck. Don't spend to much time hiding the mics the only thing you have to worry about is the wires, when people see the wires is when they put 2 and 2 together otherwise Ive had security look right at them and they don't know the difference to most of them a microphone looks like a big ice cream cone just hide the wires. But if you don't feel comfortable I used to do this (in the winter anyway) go to the drug store and buy some vel curl (or how ever you spell that word) and buy some with adhesive back then just apply one side to the mics and wear a fleece sweatshirt with a collar and just stick them under the collar and your done. But again if you do it enough eventually your going to have them were the perform the best and not worry about the rest.

something like this trucker cap which are cheeeeap.  black mesh, of course. pink colour is optional :)

i have an all black Addidas mesh cap and wear it backwards. works wonders with my AT853.

I use the same clips you have -- they came with the mics I bought from Sound Professionals.
I've worn them "hidden" in plain sight.  People are watching the show, not looking for mics.

I use the Kangol setup that Raphae (setboy) is referring to in the link.  Works fabulous.  Clips are a PITA.

Haha, to bad i can't wear a kangol or other hippie type hat at HEAVY METAL shows.  I'd look suspicious for sure like that.  Would having the mics inside of a thin knit hat mess with the sound too much?

beanies work.  i use them. run them up your neck into the beanie and then pop them out around your ears.  not the best setup during festivals though.

sure why not wear a kangol. just stand there with your arms crossed and a look of indifference on your face.  you'll blend in with everyone else at the metal show.   ;)
