Typical usage:

DINA = hypers
DIN = cards

Though I've run DIN hypers plenty of times and think it sounds mighty fine.

it really depends on how close your...the hold can be exaggerated if the L/R sides have not had a chance to "converge" so to speak

is it right to assume the smaller the room, the smaller the spacing, or should DINA be as minimum as I should go with my MGs?

not necessarily....what you are shooting for is some rejection with the mics, makes for a more natural sound....now I have learned through trial and error that for some rooms, I want to reduce that angle because the 90 degrees picks up boomy echo's....trial and error is really the best way to figure out what a certain room characteristics are

Ya, I find that when Im farther back I like to use hypers in DINA, like in the section at a shed or a balcony at a theatre, cause sometimes I feel like Im just taping the walls When Im a little closer like at a club I like hypers DIN.

I use DINA for stealth.
it seems to be the best fitting config to setup in a Kangol.
it also works pretty well if you can't get to the sweet spot and run ORTF since there is a narrower angle.

Ok Bean, you've got me confused.  There is no difference in angle between DIN and DINa -- both use a 90* angle.  Only difference between the two is the 3cm difference in spacing, 20cm vs 17cm.  Are you just talking about in general you hear more of a difference between different patterns that use different angles compared to patterns that differ only in spacing of a few centimeters?
