n00b questions about 'The Section'
« on: March 11, 2005, 03:13:22 PM »
Bear with me, I just have a few n00b questions about taping in the section.
Do any of you buy two tickets for shows so that you have some space?  I would assume that every seat gets sold in the section. I just imagine how crowded it could be with that much gear, stands & people present. I am thinking of taping Trey from the section, and these questions came to mind. I've also thought about setting my levels and then going elsewhere to enjoy the set. Get somewhere that I can move around a little more.  Are any of these things common?  Someone educate me.
AUDIO:
Open:  Busman Audio BSC1-(K1/K2/K3/K4) > Fostex FR-2LE (Busman T Mod)

Unopen:  AudioReality Omni Mics (Panasonic capsules)> AudioReality Battery Box (depending on SPL's) > iRiver H140 w/ Rockbox

VISUAL:
Canon 7D, Canon 50mm/1.8, Canon 85mm/1.8, Tamron 17-50mm/2.8, Tamron 70-200mm/2.8

okay, first of all a Phish-Trey section is different from others. That is, even if the venue has assigned seats the tapers treat the section as General Admission, first come first served and no one sits in their assigned seat. Inevitably someone who doesn't realize this shows up 10 minutes before showtime, wants his front row seat and causes a scene... don't be this guy.

your best bet in a crowded section is to have long XLR's and a clamp.... clamp onto a stand up front, run your xlr's back to your seat and out of the madness and enjoy

I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

unless your going with someone you know, and they don't mind watching your gear, I wouldn't do this. you never know who is gonna come up and do something stupid. If your going to just set levels and walk away to enjoy the show, why not just patch.

must remember to stay out of Analog 414's way. He's got cards to run in a shed from the section.....that shit takes talent and every row matters!!111!! :P
