Topic: SMK-H8K w/ hypers, good price?

so $250 for the complete set including shipping, i think it's a good deal and a decent set of mics from my research, whaddaya think?
or do i hold out for a pair of C4s?

Ya, that seems to be a pretty good price... Do the C4s even have hypers out yet? You will definitely use hypers and cards with the superluxs than you will use cards and omnis with the C4s...

His prices are about as good as I could find.  It's a good rate for the caps too.  I think there's only one other distributor that can get them.  Check the Team 'Lux thread about 2nd or 3rd page I think.

C4's don't have hypers yet.  You could also go the akg 393 route.

depends where ya look, i got my pair for $300.  Not new granted but I can't tell the difference, not a scratch.  You just have to look around for awhile.  I know right now there is one 393 with a swivel adapter on ebay BIN for $150.  its a bit beat up, but 150 is an avg price for 1 mic on fleabay.

I agree that the 390s are probably a step above the SMK-H8K soundwise. But if the hyper caps were available for the Superlux mics when I had them, I doubt that I would have gone to the 390s. No matter how you do it, you can't get the 391s with the 93 caps for anything close to the $250 it costs to get Superluxes with both sets of caps. The Superluxes are cheap and sound great - at $250 for hyper and cards, I'd say go for it!

exactly, the 391s/3s for both caps is 600 bucks +... IMO though, 391s are a significant step above the Luxes though...

if you tape in clubs, the hypers are definitely worth the money.  i ran mine more than the cards and loved them.
