Topic: Got my mics now how do I get them in the air?

I am fairly new to taping (brand new) and i have most of the big things but I don't know what to look for in a mic stand.  I have a pair of C4's, what is a good height, manufactor, what do i need?

where are you taping?  bars, arenas, ampitheaters
bands that you are taping?

max you will probably need is 13 feet, but a 10 foot stand will work just fine

any brand will work, Bogen/Manfrotto makes some great ones but they are more expensive.  Ebay for air cushioned light stands, shouldn't have to spend more than $50 for a nice one

You'll need a few things:

1)  Stand.  Most of us use Light Stands (made to hold lights for photo/film stuff)
2)  Thread adapter (light stands come with threads for lights/cameras.  You'll need one for microphones)
3)  T-Bar (horizontal bar that holds mics on top of stand and apart from each other).



1)  Stand:  You can find boatloads on EBAY.  I ordered a Bash Heavy Duty stand for about $35.  The Manfrotto/Bogens are REALLY nice, but expensive.  I'd find one that looks sturdy, has a wide footprint, and is metal rahter than plastic.  Here is an example:

2)  Thread adapter.  This is a specialized item and some light stnds come with them (mine did not).  You can get one from a few places, but here is one (3/8>5/8 adapter):  http://www.micsupply.com/standaccessories

Very nice stand which will do most things I tape  . I also picked a 13' model aswell for outdoor (Big venues)

I got a manfrotto 3333 from micsupply for my c4's and find the stand good for small to large venues(with a little extra base support). Also make sure to score a mic clamp.
