Topic: Making JB3 an external hard drive?

Hey all. So I got to thinking about the JB3 I have that the screen is broken on. Is there anyway that I could just use it as a 20gig external drive? Right now I can only get it to accept wavs and mp3s... Just a thought, I have no idea if its possible... Thanks!

You could certainly take the actual hard drive out and put it into an enclosure. Have you tried dragging and dropping files onto it with notmad explorer?

i am not 100% positive, but i believe that the interface in the jb3 will not allow it to be used as an external harddrive for anything but music files in its natural state.  now if you ripped the hd out and put it in a case, then it should be a fully functioning ex-hd.

It can work fine as an external drive as long as the pc you're connecting to has either Creative File Centre (old) or the new Creative explorer installed.  I'd recommend the latter since it make your JB3 look just like an external drive as far as the interface goes.

Using the Nomad Explorer (found on Creative web site), you have access to a data folder and a music folder with the JB3. You can copy/drag'n'drop all kind of files to the data folder back and forth, but the JB3 doesn't have a drive letter assigned by Windows, you must use the Nomad Explorer. One limitation : files must not be bigger than 2Gb (because of FAT filesystem)
