Topic: How do you measure mic configuration angles?

Hey guys I know that you measure the distance from the center of each mic cap on small studio condensers.  But how do you measure the angle?  Do I take a protactor and put the flat side even with one mic body?  I dunno...can someone help me out?

here's what i do. i have a paper cm ruler in my bag, with different color ticks for the various configs. i also have a piece of manila folder that is 110° on one side and 90° on the other.

also, a dollar bill is your friend, it has 90* angles and is about the size of DIN/DINa in length

One thing you can do is set up your rig at home and then mark your tbar and mounts so that all you have to do is align the marks in the field.  Then mark your mics so that you know how deep to put them into the clips.  Some adhesive colored dots are good for marking your mics without leaving permanent marks.

i cut out a triangle of manila folder, with a 20cm hypotenuse and 90 degree angle.  course, now that i have the DIN bar for the mbho actives, it's not necessary!  i may make one for ORTF, DINA, and NOS however in case i want to use my other mounts for different configs.

I've whipped out ye ole protractor many times just as you mentioned. The dollar bill idea sounds good though.
