dvd burner problem
« on: June 23, 2005, 08:16:48 PM »
i dunno wtf is up :'(

i can burn dvd video's, but whenever i try to burn flac dvd's w/ md5's thru nero express 6.0 ultra, it verifies and stops at random places and reports read sector errors, WTF ???

when i try to verify the md5's to see if nero was just acting weird, and the disc freezes up and doesnt verify after a certain random point ???

my external dvd burner/usb 2.0 is an Iomega rebranded Lite-On SOHW-1633S USB device

any help is greatly appreciated :)

good thing i got a 3-year warranty

what i dont get is that it burns dvd videos just fine ??? just no data dvd's w/ flacs

Bean,

Did it ever burn data DVD-Rs properly?  If it did, think of when it started to act funny.....

Here are a few things to try: firmware upgrade, burn slower (I always burn essential data files at 4X or less), exit all non essential programs, use better media (Taiyo Yuden, Made in Japan, id code TYG01 or TYG02), defrag your drive (only if your video is burning properly and on a differnt partition than your music data files).

That Lite-On SOHW-1633S is supposedly a decent burner. FWIW, I run Nero Ultra v6.3 and have no issues even at 12X with my Pioneer DVR-108 via IEEE 1394.  Never burned a coaster and it has burned easily 70 plus DVD-Rs so far.  There is a distinct possibility that the burner may be going IF you have sucessfully burned DVD-R data discs in the pst without glitches.

Good luck,

ANDY

surely you havent had that thing a full year...get ahold of the manufacturer and get a replacement!  if that doesnt work...sorry...you could always go for an internal NEC 3520 from newegg ~50$ shipped.

I've burned about 600 or so since feb and only one coaster and it was my fault.

got it xmas of 2004, i have a 3-year warranty, so i should be able to get a replacement relatively easy

and UPDATE: the burner DID just burn a flac dvcd  w/ 5 encoded/flac'd shows, and all of the md5's verified PERFECTLY, first good burn in about 10 dvd's :P
