Kwonbars with DPA4023s?
« on: August 20, 2005, 04:54:37 PM »
With some new 4023s on the way, I'm starting to think about other options to mount the mics than the CXO bar.

Has anyone tried the 4023s with a kwonbar?

goose was using a vark bar with the schoeps sgc clips with his AKG lemos (?# schoeps clip,... small screw adjust clips).
Lemos are lemos, right?
as I recall he had to shim the clip, or maybe a slight bend, but it worked well.

I made these out of a piece of aluminum for one bar, and a piece of abs sheetstock for the other. It took a little time inĀ  the garage on a saturaday afternoon :shrugs:

ortf and din bars for 4022's by moke;

Hey Moke,
Nice work on the mounts. Having a little trouble seeing how you have that mount built from the pic. Are you using elastic bands to hold the mics to the bar? I have been looking for an easy way to run din with the 4021s and was wondering if this would also work with the side exit cable. Kwon has a dpa din 402X mount on his list of thnigs to do but not sure when he will get to it.

Sorry for the picture quality, but it was not intended to show that detail, and was totally incidental from another picture of something else taping related.
I'll take better pics, but it will be awhile before they can be posted.

yeah, it's 1/8" bunjee hold down loops, that are drawn down and held via the matching bunjee spring clips.

the mount has holes drilled like this \____%

This theory,^^, has the % sign representing the mic angle, and the way the holes are drilled into the bar to create a hold down loop. The holes are drilled exactly perpindicular to the mic axis angle, so when the loops are tensioned over the mic holding grooves, it pulls the mics into the predetermined axis angles, and into the foam bed.
The loop pulls down between two small beds of foam that hold the mic secure in its fixed angle position.

did that make sense?

No sweat on the quaity of the pics, it just really peaked my interest since I have racked my brian to try and figure a way to rig other angles easily and was just never able to come up with something that worked well. It does make sense, seems like it would work great. Got any interest in making up another din bar? It is just a pain in the ass to have to set up the individaul dpa rubber mounts on a t bar, measure the spacing etc to do din.

I actually got a PM from Robert a month or so back from a question I was asking him on whether he was going to make a DPA kwonbar for DIN, and he said it was in the development stages and he hoped to have something out soon...would love to get one when he does...

Yeah, I sent him one of my 4021s to take exact measurements off of some time back. Good to hear he has it going, and glad some others are asking him about it.

I would think there'd have to be different kwonbars for each of the 21,22, and 23 because all of them have different cable sizes and/or entry points.

I belive he is working on a system that utalizes elastic around the groove in the mic like the official dpa mounts do instead of attaching to the cable like the Schoeps mounts do.

With the thickness of the 23 cable, I'm hoping I can utilize one of the existing kwonbars, but I'm not sure how the 23 cable compares to the other mics, but I think it's close to the neumann active.

I used my buddies Schoeps Kwonbar and it worked great with my 4023's.The kwonbar wont work with the 4022 or 4021's.But 4023's fits in the schoeps kwonbar slots easily. Also this was the black din kwonbar.I noticed that the grey ones from schoeps are slotted a little smaller and the 4023's didnt fit but the black kwonbar did.

One challenge is leaving enough clearance to get the windscreens on far enough.. As anyone who has clamped an active capsule in a regular mount has discovered.

I've had no problems fitting windscreens on my Gefell m20 caps in a vark bar with regular Schoeps SG20 mounts

i wonder if i could make a mount like yours moke for my 140s...dropping $200 on mounts and whatnot seems a bit crazy to me.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

What about a Vark bar? They run $50 from posthorn. Similar to what Moke made and should allow most configs. Then just use a shockmount and the neumann clips.

i just ordered my 140's from trey, i don't actually have them yet.  but i don't really know if they come with clips or not, i thought it was just the mics and then i got the cables too for actives.  but if they dont' have the clips then i'm still dropping quite a bit on the special clips for actives.  which if thats the case, i might as well just get a kwon bar or make my own somehow.

can't wait to see more pics moke, +t

i'm probably gonna try a copy of your mount if i don't have clips...i just can't afford the fancy accessories right now with the new house and new mics and all.

i don't think theres a groove, but perhaps i could figure something out...if not i guess theres always gaffers tape for a very temporary solution.
