AT Shock Mounts on Vertical Shure Bar?
« on: September 15, 2005, 02:30:37 PM »
Anybody using AT Shock Mounts on a Vertical Shure bar? If so, tell me how you do it. There isn't nearly enough space in there...

When you say "AKG Mounts", do you mean just the standard mounts that come with 480s/c1000s/etc.? If so, there should be plenty of room.

If you mean something else entirely, ignore this post like it never happened...

;)

Actually I need to clarify this... What I meant... is AT shockmounts! I'm off to edit my post now...

Much easier than trying to describe with words: http://www.oade.com/Tapers_Section/micsetup.html

Pick one configuration, click it, then click "zoom in" for pictures of most popular configs using a Shure vert bar and AT mounts.
Depending on how you space the threaded studs on the vert bar; both in the middle, one top one middle, or one top one bottom; and with the mounts being flexible also, there is actually quite a bit of room.

Have you tried unscrewing the top of the bar, removing the black piece and flipping it upside down? This allows for more vertical spacing.

Exactly what I do.   Sorta looks like        ====

                                                                |

I have an AKG bar that I have never used because I'm too stupid to figure out the DIN/a without having to put one up, one down so to speak.  My only complaint is that my 480's are actually behind the bar like in the Oade pic instead of out in front of it.

You think of running the EW's with one Wayne?

Yes, I broke two of my Sombra-Soms the other night when my stand took a nose-dive. I have a pair of AT Shockmounts that I bought with the intent of using them on my horizontal bar, but I have only once used them in that fashion. I'll test on the vertical bar tonight and see how well it works.

I too use the AT mounts with a vert bar. I've done XY, DIN, ORTF

The vert bar is cool and obviously the one I prefer but it does take a little getting used to.  I actually have marked mine with little pieces of blue tape to make the configs easier for me to remember in the dark.

Thanks guys!

I used the AT mounts without a hitch last night. Funny thing is I've had those mounts for several months and almost never used them. I love those mounts, but hate the amount of room they take up in my bag.
