Found the UltraClamp online while looking for a second "universal clamp" - you know the one, same as on the Sonic Sense accessories page:



I like this clamp better already.  It's more compact - at least in the config I'll run it, which is without the swivelling / rotating piece (top piece in the product diagram).  With the swivel / rotating peice added, it allows for full range of motion to accommodate a variety of clamping positions.  But I really like the fact that it splits into two pieces so I can mount my mics with the bottom piece only (again, see product diagram), and achieve a clamp space very close to the pole onto which I'm clamping.  With its 1/4" male thread, it'll require adapters to fit my mic / shockmount clips, but that's okay.  Best price I found was ~$20 at Campmor.  FWIW...

thats what i use. however, a shure vert bar w/ 480's is kinda heavy for it. but duct tape fixes that.

That surprises me, but...it is what it is.  I take it you mount the Shure vert bar to the rotating extension?  Have you tried running the Vert bar upside-down vs. right-side-up and noticed any difference?  I plan on using two of them, and only the bottom half in the diagram - one each for my 414s.  Haven't used 'em live yet, but they seem plenty stable setting up at home, so far.

I found this clamp at a local camera place and have been using it for over a year. It is extremely versatile! I have clamped onto a pole that was close to 2" diameter. I taped Raq on Tuesday with my 460s hanging upside down. I don't think I have tried it with a shure bar, but it might work. If you took the ball adapter piece off, it would work fine, but I could see where the weight would cause the ball to slip. Here's some pics.

I should probably note that I use the clamp with that hinged 5/8>5/8 adapter in the picture (it came with a cheapo T-bar). The hinged adapter gives the clamp even more versatility and doesn't add that much bulk when all folded up.

I'll second the Rowi, best small clamp there is.  Unfortunately you can't get them anymore unless you can find someone that happens to have one left.

yea, those little rowi's are cool.

I use one of the new clamps as well, and love it.  ultra configurable.
and, ...its barely $20 !  I bought mine at campmore online.

the same company makes a little tripod where the legs fold up and there is velcro straps to hold it to a tubular object...like a stand.
its also cheap.

rowis are all over ebay...I have gotten 2 of them, different styles, for ~$15-20 each...saw one of the small ones go for $11 recently...

okay,I know others have had this happen so here goes.

at denson the plastic piece on the threaded rod that butts up against your
stand or whatever you're clamping to broke and is sort of unfunctional right
now and instead of buying a new clamp I want to fix it.

I got some rubber vacuum caps from work that seemed like they'd work and I put
one on and whe I tried to clamp to my stand it worked but the rubber is too soft
and just started breaking off in pieces when I tightened it down and the rubber twisted.
so after a few times clamping i'll need to pop another on and I would like a more
permanent solution.
