Topic: Need help evening 2 channels (normalizing maybe?)

I am tring to convert a Stones 10/6 recording. The tape was made just to the left of the right stacks so the right channel is hotter in the mix & it has what I think is a panning sound to the right. I tried normalizing the entire thing & then normalizing each channel seperately but haven't been able to tel much difference so far. the recording sounds pretty good but I'd liek to make it a little more even.

I'm using soundforge 7.0 but I'm a huge novice on using it and any editing.....

any help is appreciated.

I have had good results with this method:
1. Select the louder channel by double clicking well above or below the center line.
2. From the normalize pulldown select 'Scan Levels'.
3. Record the RMS value.
4. Close the normalze pulldown and select the softer channel.
5. In the normalize pulldown enter the RMS value with the slider and select 'Average RMS power'.
6. Insure that the selection reflects the desired channel and click OK.
This should make both channels the same relative loudness.

Also be sure that you're actually 'improving' the sound rather than just messing with numbers to make things too perfect.  Some difference between channels is natural and expected.
