Resale value of Pelusso CEMC6 mics?
« on: November 08, 2005, 06:12:26 PM »
I haven't seen a used pair of CEMC6s show up yet but I'm curious to give em a whirl for maybe 2 or 3 months.  Think I'd be making some expensive tapes because I'd have to sell for a substantial loss?

IMO, mint condition gear can easily go for 90% of what one paid new - *if* you got a very good price on it new and the new market value hasn't dropped.  The higher new price you pay, the bigger hit you'll take when you sell, of course.  Very good to excellent condition gear, 80-90%.  Fair to good condition, 70-80%.  But it's all guesswork at this point since the CEMC6's haven't been around all that long.  If you don't want to take a hit, buy 'em used (if you can find 'em, maybe post an ISO in the YS and see what happens), or buy 'em as low as you can new and re-sell on eBay with a reserve set at a point below which you will not deal.

Just a heads up.  Just bought mine from Sound Pure for 535 w/o shipping.  I've been eyeing them for several months at this price.  As of yesterday, they have jumped almost 100 on their price, right at 600.  Audiolot is even more.  Looks like they may be going up in price.

are you planning on buying MG's new or used?  I know I was watching the yard sale for about 6 months, and nothing was coming up.  Then in April, I did the deed and bought them new.  Over the past few years, the price of new MG's has gone up a good deal.  I paid around $2000 for a new pair of m200's.  of course, over the summer, 2 or 3 pairs came up used, and for considerable less money than I would let my go for.  of course, those mics were probably bought new at a considerable lower price than I paid.  oh well, that's the way it goes.  just something to think about.

I think the Peluso's will continue to rise in price as their reputation grows. Those of us that got in at the $535 price got a GREAT deal.

i'm getting a nice price on the MGs new so hopefully they're the last set of taping mics I buy for a few years.

yup, actually I just heard about your nice price. :)  anyway, I love my pair.  I'm sure you'll really feel satisfied and not feel the need to switch mics again...  the omni caps will probably be next for me, and then the hypers.  but I'm not in any particular rush, mostly because another local taper has them and I can borrow them whenever I need to.

Yeah I'd say it's a fair price on a brand new MATCHED pair.  MG doesn't normally match them, but an exception will be made.  I really don't see where there is to go from the MGs though.  Maybe a pair of LDs or guns or something of that nature but they should smoke.

So everyone is pleased with their CEMC6s now?  They do sound good for the price.

I really have to admit that I just love the Peluso's. I've used a few different pairs of mics since I've been taping and these are the most "enjoyable" mics I've used. They do not sound anything like my mk4s did, and they do not have the extreme detail that those mics exhibit, but they produce more consistent tapes from show to show. With my Scheops, the tapes either sounded very good or very bad, not a whole lot of middle ground. If you like tight bass then the Peluso's should please, If you're looking for a lot of HF extension, or sparkle, then they may not be the best choice, they sound great for Rock music.

I love my Pelusos also and would not want to part with them any time soon. I think they produce wonderful imaging with nice frequency response.
