What is this noise....
« on: November 16, 2005, 04:52:59 AM »
i need some advice....

i am getting this sound in my transfers:

http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2DMOSJDIRRMBJ34SR7BUFZZR0T

http://s43.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=06STVTENV7X7S0NQSOJ13MUILS

http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3UOFK4PNL3W991AIQ4UUYUD12V

^^^ This is 2mb with a sample of the flaw

http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=226XBDOLBESC41VM9IF40735CN

^^^ this is 18MB with a few more pops in it

please give it a listen, im a newbie and have no idea what can be causing these pops.

none of this in the master dats. the sound happens when i transfer via 7pin OR via analog cables.

it's been constant in all my tapes in the past months, every few songs there are a few pops like clockwork.

im running m1>7pin>moster coax(or analog stereo rca) cables > maudio ap24.96 > sony vaio p3 desktop > soundforge

all settings set correctly and changed nothing from when my tapes transfered flawlessly over the summer.......

Have you tried anything other than Soundforge for recording? I'm not familiar with Soundforge, but does it use temporary files?

Also, are there any other applications running in the background affecting the performance?

There are a few simple steps you can take to tweak your system for audio: http://www.musicxp.net/tuning_tips.php
That might help.

If it is XP, then in control panel, go to System: System properties will pop up, go to Hardware tab, press device manager button and under IDE ATA/ATAPI go to the Primary or secondary IDE channel (what ever drive you use to store your wavs files as they are being recorded).  Right click it and call up properties.  Under the Adv settings tab make sure DMA is selected.

Moon, no, my first transfer i used audicity and i didnt really care for the interface.
but i'd used SF after that with no problems too. not sure if it has temp. files,
but it does create another type of file with the wav that im not sure what it is.
and thanx for the tweak tips : )

Shag, XP yes, I will try that, and thanx!
