Trying to purchase AT853 mics... ran into a snag
« on: November 16, 2005, 07:47:14 PM »
My employer is purchasing a set of mics for me. I selected the SP-CMC-4 (AT853 cards from Sound Pros) with clips. The order went to our purchasing dept, but it seems that Sound Pros won't take purchase orders, so they ordered from Sweetwater.com and ended up getting a mono AT853 hanging mic... We're returning it.

Now, they're trying to figure out if our policies allow us to use our company credit card for the purchase from Sound Pros. In the meantime, I'm looking to see who else might sell a comparable set of mics (similar quality & price) via a purchase order. Any suggestions?

main uses: interviews, instructional video, concert stealthing (after work)
equip: Sound Pro batt box w/ rolloff, Sony r700 MD

Thanks in advance.

I'm a bit confused. The AT853 is not a stereo mic.

Perhaps your company would get better results if you contacted Sound Pros directly before the order?  I think they modify the AT mics, so I'm not sure you could buy a similar product elsewhere unless you bought regular AT mics (not a single microphone).

I'm a bit confused. The AT853 is not a stereo mic.
SP version are 2 mics ran into one cable (1/8)
you will prob want a battery box too

side question--will your job buy you any mics or is there a price range
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

That's right, this is a pair of AT853s that are connected to a single 1/8" plug. I already have a battery box with bass roll off from Sound Pros. My budget is pretty healthy, but I feel that asking for $200 worth of mics is about pushing the limit. I could go a bit higher, but not much without raising too many questions. Once I get over $300 for a purchase, we need to tag it for inventory, etc. That's why I'm not jumping for the Microtrck just yet...

I will suggest they contact Sound Pros about a P.O. , but I suspect they already tried that. Anyone else selling quality, stealthy, stereo mics that I should consider in the under $300 range?
