The new toy arrives today...  will run on normal AA's for a while but need a resolution for real power.

I am new to the battery game and would appreciate advice.  I have run SLA's w/V3 and Camcorder Bats with 722 but not sure how to power this thing..

Not sure if 12v or 6v > owners manual not 100% Clear... should be the same plug set up as the DAP-1.

Looks like from the manual the AC wallwart puts out 12v, so...I'm guessing it requires a 12v external power source.  That sucks, IMO.  But...maybe we'll luck out and it'll run on a broader range, including 9v.  And if so, I like the 9v Li-Ion batts marketed for DVD players, a la the Walmart / Lenmar DVD-U9 / Initial RB-270 batts.  For 12v power, I don't know of a better solution than lead, unfortunately.  But maybe others do...

I use one of these to power my pre and a/d, and it's a hell of a lot nicer than lead.  I actually use the 5000 mAh model, but I can't seem to find it on their site anymore.

You could probably get away with one of the 4500 mAh units, but I'm not sure how much the Tascam draws or how picky you are about extra juice.  FWIW, I can run my 316 and my Mini-Me for a little over 5 hours on the one I've got.

You will have to put together your own cable with one of those Tamiya connectors, but that's a piece of cake. 

If you've got a box that only likes 12V (like I do), I think this is a really great option.

It is the cost of the AA's that is daunting...  will be looking into rechargables but even they are not ideal in large quantity.. hoping for a Wal-Mart type of solution..  have to see..

Will run on AA on TUE with phantom to hte U89's... report forthcoming.

The manual says that it'll also run on Firewire power between 8-40 volts.  Maybe it's not that picky about its power.  Looks like one might be able to construct a firewire cable that'll work w/ the li-on 9v batteries.

I think the power management screen is very cool.

Cool, I missed that in the manual.  Shouldn't be too hard to run a 9v Li-Ion batt through the appropriately pinned IEE1384 connector.
