Headphone wires question...

Hey, so I bought some headphones and the jack on them was 1/4' and I barely use 1/4 so im going to change it to 1/8'. There are three wires inside, red, blue, and copper. Now, ground is sleave right? Which is tip and which is ring? THANKS!!!

look at the jack you cut off to see which is tip and which is ring.

Tip is left, ring is right and shaft is ground.

its, solid, doesn't unscrew.

You don't actually have to look at it.  Just put an ohmmeter or continuity tester on it.  One of the wires will go through to the tip and the other to the ring.

If you don't have an ohmmeter or continuity tester, then just wire it up and listen.  If you got it backwards, re-wire it.  You've got a coin toss' chance that you'll get it right to begin with.

If I was going to bet, I'd go for red is right, which is the ring.
