24/96 files won't open in SF8

ssia. Got them off the 722 and now trying to open in SF8 for a resample. set one is 2.5 gigs and set two is 3.5 gigs. Do I need to do something to them before trying to open. Where is my JB3 when I need it ::)

I recall reading something about this recently. I think there was some program that would chop up WAV files greater than 2GB.

Pretty sure it was called AudioHack. I will have a look around and see if I can find that thread.

Oh, so SF8 won't open files over 2 gigs? I thought that was just wavelab? What about CE2K? I was under the impression that would open files over 2 gigs?

Yup. at least with SF6 & 7 
Audition and CEP will open up to 4gb files
With Wavelab5 you have to do a file import or sumpin'

Have you found anything fun in SF8 that would make me want to upgrade ?

The Dither algorithm is allegedly better in SF8, and I dont think sf7 supported 24/192??

personally I cant see nor hear it. SF takes about twice as long and sounds (IMO) worse than wavelab. YMMV
And Honestly I dont see many folks that can handle 192 even thinking of using SF as it is Not what I would consider a pro application By anymeans. I would guess that Most folks that are running 24/192 would rather use Protools HD.

Same to you Nick!Hope yours was a good one, my friend. I meant to say that the SF8 dither is supposedly better than the SF6 dither.
I use wavelab about 75% of the time, though I like sf8 for some things. I do know of one professional Mastering Engineer that uses SF and swears by it. Most of the other guys I know use Sequoia , Samplitude or Pyramix.

dont you have to 'save as alternate 24-bit format' or something like that once chopped in cd wave ?

Samplitude!  Nothing beats it!  It's what I record with and split files on.  I've opened up a 3 hour set at 24/96 and it opened the whole shebang.  We're talking 6 gigs here.   I use Soundforge for normalization and fades only.  and of course cdwav for tracking
