hey guys, i've never taped a concert before but love CONCERT RECORDINGS and stuff like that.  I went to a concert over the summer and didn't tape it (regretfully), but am going to one by the same band in the spring and really want to tape it....so here are my questions:

1.  are these mikes (core-sound cardiods, http://www.core-sound.com/mics/1.php) any good?  the description that they give seems like its a good sound for not much cash ($75), and theyre tiny (useful for stealth recording)....are those worth my money?

2.  I've got an iPod that I'd love to use as a storage device instead of a minidisc player, etc.  the iPod can store AIFF and WAV (what i bet the mikes will record as) on it, and it can be used as a hard disk (i think) through this program: http://ipodlinuxinstl.sourceforge.net/index.shtml

Also, If the above options would work, what cables do i need, etc........tips, hints, anything like that is GREATLY appreciated, and because I'm so new to all of this, practically anything is useful....if the above options aren't viable/good, please post back and tell me ones that are (ideally, I'm looking to spend less than $200, but still want good quality)

thanks very much for being patient, cheers, calvin

Crowd chatter isn't terrible. But yeah we did have roving packs of hoes camping under the stand.

1) Those mics are decent for starting out I imagine.

2) The iPod will be more trouble than it's worth if you even get such a setup working at all.

3) Read the archive, read the "where to start" forum, read other threads, research equipment when someone mentions it and always remember this:

Mics -> Mic power -> Amplification -> Analog/Digital Converter -> Storage

If you have all five stages (some devices do more than one thing) then you are all set.

just out of sheer curiosity, why will the iPod be more trouble than it's worth?  I realize it's not the most conventional of storage units, but its what ive got, and id like to make it work if at all possible.......dont know if i can, but im just interested to hear what you have to say

thanks, calvin
