Is there any smaller battery box for Core Sound Binaural?
« on: January 09, 2006, 03:22:33 PM »
Hey guys,

I have CoreSound binaural microphones, but I really don't like its battery box. It's too big, it's too metalized, it's too hard to hide actually:-)
Does anybody could tell me if I could use the SP-SPSB-6 - SOUND PROFESSIONALS - MINI BATTERY MODULE instead?
Thanks in advance

I'm sure the SP-SPSB-6 would work fine.  It's quite a bit smaller than the CSB BB is from what I can tell and it's mostly plastic in regards to the casing.  I'm sure if you took the battery out while being wanded (it's easy to remove since it's exposed) it would barely register.

I tried using csc with a spsb6 and it didn't work.

I think that if you perform a slight surgery to the wires on the csb's then it will work.  You need to get rid of the mini xlr and have the mics terminating into only a stereo mini.

I didn't know that the CSBs used mini-xlr.  I'd wager that trying to shove a mini-xlr into an 1/8" stereo input wouldn't go over so well... I thought CSBs were 1/8" like the CMC-8s.

Just curious how many pins are on the core sounds mini XLR?
If theres 5 then the mics are probably using a 3 wire powering system so your not likely to be able to buy an off the shelf battery box.

They have a mini xlr and a stereo mini after it to go to the recorder.  I tried plugging the stereo mini into the spsb6 and then to recorder.

I'm pretty sure it's three pin.  I don't own them anymore so I'm not positive.

Core Sound uses a 4-pin mini-XLR.
Schoeps MK21,MK4,MK41,MK41V,MK8 > CMC5/Naiant Tinybox/PFAs > Sound Devices 744T, Sony PCM-M10
DPA 4060 (CS HEB) > SD 744T, M10

A 3-prong plug, commonly used in pro-audio. eXternal, Live, Return.
