I want to upgrade to either a Neuman KM140 or Schoeps MK4
active setup to use primarily for stealth in-hat recording.
From the recordings I've heard, I prefer the Neuman/Lunatec
sound more than the Schoeps/Lunatec or Schoeps/Nbox sound,
but the Schoeps/Nbox setup sounds a lot more stealthy, since
the Neumanns still require that the active cables be
connected to the mic bodies.
My questions are:
Is there a stealthier way to use the Neumanns without the
bodies, and is there another pre option than the V3 that
will still get a good sound with a smaller size? For
example, is there such a thing as an Nbox for the AK40's?
Regarding the Schopes/Nbox setup, can anyone point me to
where I can get more information on the Nbox, like size,
cost and features?
Lastly, regarding cost, what is the approximate price
difference between the Neuman/Lunatec and Schoeps/Nbox
setups?
Is there anything else I should be considering? Like I said,
I will primarily be stealth recording. I currently use the
SP-CMC-8's with a Microtrack. I also have a D7 that I hope
to retire soon.
