Topic: UA5 Questions

I have a Oade digi modded UA5 and I am considering a P or W mod.  Can I have the mod I choose added to my current unit?  I am using SPC4 mics and I read the mod comparison thread for my mics and I think that the P mod may be the way that I want to go, but I also saw some stuff on the combo mod, what does that consist of?  I emt a taper at a show that said his UA% had W,P and T mods in it.  Is this what the combo mod is?

Secondly when I actually choose the mod that I want, what is the most cost effective way to have this mod done?

AFAIK, the Oade Bros provide a single mod - W, P, or T.  Never heard of the "combo" mod before.

If yours is truly an Oade digi-mod, you have a choice:  send it in for just the W, P, or T mod, or send it in for the W+, P+, or T+ mod.  The latter makes sense if you can swing the cash now and would otherwise have gone for the + mod later.  The + mod is especially useful if you record sources that require high gain - the + mod makes the UA5's self-noise very, very quiet (not audible to my ears) even at high gain.

What will the plus mods run, I went to the Oade site and they completely have the UA5 page shut down, are they still modding the UA5, I thought that they quit selling the UA5 in the recent past

They no longer sell the UA5 because Edirol discontinued it and new units are no longer available.  Best bet is to call the Oade Bros to find out <a> if they're still modding units originally purchased from them (I believe they are), and <b> current prices.

If Oade can't do it Chris (busman) has been getting good feedback from his reasonably priced and very good sounding ua5 mods.

That seems unlikely, but here is the link to the contact page of their website. It does not say no to Canada, (at least I did not see anything in my fast skim,) but you can check right from them directly.
