Topic: SBD patching question

I'm thinking about going and taping the Radiators next week and I see that they usually have an XLR patchbay. What will I need for cables for going out of the patchbay and into a UA5? Can I go XLR>UA5 XLR in? Any UA5 settings I'd need to be concerned about?

I've ran SBD > UA-5 > JB3 using XLRs w/ great results.  One thing to keep in mind is that the signal from the SBD may be very hot, so the UA-5 levels will need to be low if the signal is hot.  In my case, I had the gain turned all the way down.  Peak light was still flashing, but the UA-5 > JB3 handled it wonderfully and I was thrilled w/ the results.

I have recorded a few Radiator shows in the past couple of years. They have a SBD PATCHBAY that has 3 options to plug into:
XLR
RCA
1/4 "
Their soundman is very kewl, yes sometimes they run HOT so watch your levels.....

Thanks for the answers. What are the XLR's out of the patchbay, male or female. I'm wondering if I can just use my mic cables or if I'll need male to male xlr's?

just get you some xlr gender changers in case your mic cables wont work

Since I use my SBM-1 when I recorded the Rads I ran out of the 1/4" to RCA line in.
I would guess Male into the XLR SBD PATCHBAY, altho having interchangeable xlr adapters makes good sense:-)

your standard mic cables will be ok, F>M.  as mentioned above, signal may be hot.  have fun.

All XLR outputs, regardless if they're from a patchbay, pre-amp, SBD, or mics will be male. So you'll need to connect your female XLR end to whatever the source is.

All XLR outputs, regardless if they're from a patchbay, pre-amp, SBD, or mics will be male. So you'll need to connect your female XLR end to whatever the source is.

Easy way to remember this with XLR cables is that the signal goes in the direction of the pins.  So, since the signal is leaving the patchbay, the pins on the bay are going to be male and you'll have to plug female into it.
