OK,
I spent about $4 in the local electronics store, and got something similar to above.... I bought:
1. An 8 cell AA plastic holder
2. A right angle DC plug (2.2 mm internal diameter I believe) with nice, flexible wire coming off it.
I just soldered the wire to the battery box (positive post to inside on plug), and wrapped it up with some electrical tape. I can run an ACM 671 w/ phantom powering and light on for about 4.5 to 4.75 hours, using the Energizer 2500 mah Nimh cells. I use it for long festivals (easier to just plug this in then ripping the bag open to get at the battery compartment after the first 4 hours or so of recording). It works great, and it's cheap. It will provide peace of mind to those with the internal use of the Nimh issue. I would like to point out, this porblem has NOT occurred to me using the Energizer batteries. Also, Oade recommends the Duracell Nimh, beause of the positive post length. When holding an Energizer next to it, they APPEAR visually to be the same length.
Good luck
P.S. What Nimh batteries were people using when the deck seemed to mysteriously conk out?
