It seems like this should be wonderful, but with Marantz and Tascam offering 24 bit CF recorders at under $1000, $6000 for the sonosax, no matter how small or wonderful it is, seems like an awful lot on money. Nonetheless, I'm up for hearing the tapes. ;)

Keep in mind that there will also be a 2ch version of this available...  considerably less cost.

Sax has always been a little more expensive than the rest but generally worth it...

Think of the fuss when Sound Design introduced the 744 and 722... now nobody bats an eye and the $'s.

Any news and/or pricing on the MINIR 2?

MINIR 2 build in the same housing and based on the same technology as the MINIR82, this 2 tracks CompactFlash Card only recorder is designed to offer journalists and reporters an affordable, robust, compact and easy to use recorder thank's to its advanced Automatic Gain Controller. Numerous factory presets will help users to rapidly and easily sets the 2 microphone pre-amps according to microphone type and recording environnement.

Further informations about the MINIR 2 will be available by september 2005

Maybe a couple of small scratches, but thats because these mics are chick magnets.
Girls always up on Andy tryin to grab these mics, the scratches are from their wedding rings.

  A lilttle more from Sonosax...

1 - how long will it be until the R2 follows the R82 to market?

1) As we put all our efforts in the MINIR82 we do not have defined the MINIR2 yet.

2 - Will there be a Lemo connection for Schoeps/Neumann Mics?

2) The MINIR82 do not have LEMO connector but a 8 Pin Binder on which we provide all connections for these kind of mic
Microphones wired to a Lemo can be either rewired to the Binder or use a short adapter cable.

3 - Does the machine use traditional Compact Flash or is it an SD Card?

3) The MINIR82 uses CompactFlash Card not SD

4 - Any idea on the 2ch pricing in US $'s?

4) Not yet

Kind regards

right now, the only thing that would cause me to change my rig would be if the sonosax 2ch unit would power MK5s via actives in a nice unit, that would be awesome, omni or card, literally all-in-one

peace, chris

Pricey but nifty. +t for the information.

One thing bugged me though:

Including one year free software up-date

Only one year for firmware updates? weaksauce.
Firmware should be free for life. (For as long as they sell the product, at least.)

That is kinda strange, but I will bet that when it is released it will work flawlessly. They have had what 2 years to get it right? I LOVE Sonosax, but their stuff is a tad bit expensive. It is Swiss made after all.  :)

I long for a R82, but for 6-7G's I would rather have 2 744's I think. 8 tracks at 24/96 on a 30GB drive will be good for about what a 2-3 hour show?  :o

for those who can read french, a preliminary user manual of the MINIR82 is available from the Sonosax website (here).
2 units are heavily tested right now and production has started.
First units should be delivered next may...
